As of Wednesday, there had been no reports of local transmission in the area, O.C. Mosquito and Vector Control Ecologist Kiet Nguyen said. But a few cases inevitably crop up each year, Nguyen said.

Vector control officials in Santa Barbara County are closely monitoring the county’s mosquito population as more of these insects are expected following this year’s heavy rainfall.
