The deadline to submit the petition to recall Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek has passed, and the man who started it all says there are 72,271 names in total, which is 442,013 shy of the target.

Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek and local business owner Landon Johnston, who launched the petition to recall her from office nearly two months ago, met for a scheduled face-to-face on Friday.

Landon Johnston, a local HVAC business owner, began an official bid last month to collect 514,000 signatures from Calgarians who want to remove Mayor Jyoti Gondek from office.
