LEXINGTON, Ky. — Funny Cide, the “Gutsy Gelding” who became a fan favorite after winning the Kentucky Derby and Preakness in 2003, has died from complications of colic. He was 23.

2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Funny Cide, who arrived at the Kentucky Horse Park last fall, is perhaps best known as being one of only eight geldings to win the Derby.

Twenty years after he captivated the horse racing world with a run that fell just short of a Triple Crown, Funny Cide has died.

Caudill's art will be featured on the 2024 Kentucky Derby official racing programs and a variety of merchandise. Prints will also be available for purchase.
