Pat Beard, a prominent local lawyer and philanthropist for more than five decades who was passionate about state and national politics, died Saturday.

A preliminary investigation revealed both motorcyclists were riding north on Illinois Route 394 when one victim rear-ended the other, causing both to crash.

The federally-funded program, which went year-round this year, means 366 kids served in Sweet Home, Lebanon, Albany, Corvallis, Harrisburg and Philomath are on an extended break.
