Jimmy Fortune went from rural Virginia to singing tenor for the Statler Brothers, starting in 1982. The 20-year gig landed him in both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Gospel Hall of Fame.

They were already establishing their spot in country music history with hits like “Flowers on the Wall,” when singer Jimmy Fortune joined the group in the early ’80s.
