No matter their legal status, immigrants are required to pay taxes the same as U.S. citizens. Rather than filing with a Social Security number, noncitizens can apply for an individual taxpayer identification number, or ITIN, through the IRS to file their taxes.

The operation focused on “transnational organized crime, gangs, and egregious illegal alien offenders," immigration officials said.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and various law enforcement arrested 370 illegal migrant criminal offenders in Massachusetts from March 18-23, according to a statement from ICE.
