Institutions in charge of water Resources, disaster management, environment protection and mining are probing the disappearance of hot springs in Mashyuza cell, Nyakabuye sector, Rusizi district.

This medicinal plant is found near hot springs known as Amashuza in Kinyarwanda. Previously, Nymphaea thermarum was known only from a single site in the Western Province of Rwanda.
