Virginia is the only U.S. state that hoists a flag bearing the image of a woman's bare breast. The reason for this has everything to do with the evolution and changing appearance of the state's seal.

Flags across the state will be lowered at sunrise Friday and remain at half-staff till sunset, the order degrees. The flag order applies to both the U.S. flag and the Commonwealth of Virginia flag.

All Virginia and United States flags outside of state and local buildings across Virginia will be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Friday, Aug. 16.
