Emergency exit doors in the Apple Cinemas in the Brass Mill Center mall were screwed closed, stopping customers from leaving the building during a fire alarm.

The Waterbury assistant fire marshal said there was a poorly-lit exit stairwell with two exit doors screwed shut.
