Several Catholic colleges and universities remain open in Michigan, though Siena Heights University in Adrian will close.

St Catherine’s School, situated in the heart of Empangeni, is a private school and it is the property of the Dominican Congregation of St Catherine of Siena of Oakford, Natal.

In 1939, it was renamed Siena Heights College in honor of St. Catherine of Siena, a 14th-century Dominican nun. It became co-ed in 1969 and, in 1998, it became Siena Heights University.

Sister Mary Bede served at St. Catherine Convent, St. Edward Convent and Siena Center in Racine. She lives at Siena Center and continues to help other sisters with their sewing needs and garden work.
