After the way Mikko Rantanen played Thursday night, the Hurricanes really had no choice but to cut their losses and hope his departure is addition by subtraction.

Unlike with his trade to Carolina, Rantanen was involved in the decision of him going to Dallas and signing an 8-year, $96 million contract.

Following the trade and extension, the Stars sent their first message to the star winger. "Welcome to our Finnish Mafia, Mikko Rantanen," Dallas wrote. Rantanen becomes the fifth Finnish player on the Stars' roster. The four others include Mikael Grandlund, Roope Hintz, Miro Heiskanen and Esa Lindell.
