A mega upgrade or replacement for the 60-year-old Bribie Island bridge is a step closer with the attention now turned to residents on a possible fix for the accident-prone landmark.

A hundred years ago, the first tourists on Bribie Island arrived from Brisbane on a 1000-passenger luxury steam ship complete with an orchestra that played as they danced after a three-course lunch.
