Adobe has released the first beta release of Photoshop for Apple Silicon.

Apple said that despite obvious comparisons, its new Aperture software wasn't created to compete with Adobe's Photoshop.

Adobe has released Photoshop for Apple Silicon. The new version of the app is optimized for M1 Macs like the MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini. It averages 1.5 times faster performance.

After teasing it for a year, Adobe has released the first version of Photoshop for the iPad — and Illustrator is following it at some point in 2020.

Adobe is making good on that promise and today has a Photoshop for iPad update out that introduces two useful features: Curves and Apple Pencil pressure sensitivity adjustments.

That said, Photoshop for ARM is still in beta and Adobe lists known issues for both Apple Silicon and Windows on ARM.

"Special editions" of Adobe's consumer-oriented editing software, Photoshop Elements 10 and Premiere Elements 10, are now available to purchase on Apple's Mac App Store.
