MassMutual has not provided a reason why the ad, which debuted in October, was pulled. The company told ESPN its relationship with Ovechkin was exclusive to that one commercial.

March 1 (UPI) --Washington Capitals star winger Alex Ovechkin's popular MassMutual commercial has been taken off the air as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, it was announced Tuesday.

Ovechkin starred in a MassMutual commercial alongside his wife, Anastasia, and his teammate, Nicklas Backstrom. Anastasia discovers Backstrom is on Ovechkin's life insurance policy.

MassMutual said "the ad is no longer on the air," and clarified that its relationship with Ovechkin was limited to that one commercial. The ad is still available on the MassMutual YouTube account.
