NFL owners are tabling a vote on whether to ban the "tush push" play at the annual league meetings in Palm Beach, Fla., multiple outlets reported Tuesday.
Kahler noted the Eagles and Buffalo Bills were the only two teams to run it more than five times during the 2024 campaign. The tush push accounted for only 0.28 percent of all plays during the season.
The proposal from the Green Bay Packers presented this week at the NFL’s annual meetings was to make the push element of the Philadelphia Eagles ’ signature quarterback sneak play illegal. Opinions were clearly split on the Tush Push entering Tuesday and this debate will be revisited. The next league meetings are in May.
Dallas Cowboys: Co-owner Stephen Jones indicated Dallas will vote against the push, desiring "consistency" in rule enforcement, as linebackers aren't currently permitted to push defensive linemen when defending extra points.
One problem is that there's no evidence supporting the first idea. In February, CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones reported the NFL's internal data showed no player injuries during the tush push in 2024. Kahler echoed that detail in her report.
