There’s a growing chance that an area meteorologists are monitoring in the tropics could develop into a storm around the southeastern United States. If the system comes to fruition, heavy rain, gusty winds and rip currents could hit Florida, coastal Georgia and the Carolinas into the holiday weekend.

Parts of the Mid-Atlantic States — including Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and New Jersey — were on alert on Tuesday evening, as a forecast for thunderstorms and heavy rain led to flash flood warnings across the region.

Heavy rain and damaging wind are possible, though a low probability in today's storms in Connecticut, officials say.

The middle game of the three-game series between the Cincinnati Reds and Boston was suspended because of rain with the Red Sox leading 2-1 heading into the fourth inning and will resume as part of a day-night doubleheader on Wednesday.

The game will resume at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, with the Sox leading 2-1. The teams will then play as scheduled on Wednesday night at 7:10 p.m.
