SAN DIEGO — Several U.S. citizens have been kidnapped in Mexico in recent months by people they met on dating apps, the U.S. embassy in Mexico said on Monday. The victims, who were kidnapped in the Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Nayarit areas, were held for ransom, according to a news release.

Officials at the United States Embassy and its consulates in Mexico have confirmed several reports of Americans being kidnapped by individuals they met on a dating app, federal officials announced.
