The U.S. State Department said that Hong Kong's offered bounties for six more pro-democracy campaigners who were deemed to have violated national security laws and the revoking of the passports of seven more amounted to intimidation efforts.

The Hong Kong government has condemned Washington for extending sanctions imposed on local officials through to November 2019. Hong Kong announced bounties on six overseas democracy activists, which the US sees as transnational repression. The activists, accused of national security crimes, are offered bounties of HK$1 million for arrest information.

The teenage activist, who attended some of the protests back in Hong Kong in her school uniform, having gone straight from class to the marches when she was as young as 13, has been described as a “brave” and “fiercely pro-democracy” figure by those that know her.
