Florida's 'Alligator Alcatraz' immigration detention center isn't funded by FEMA hurricane money
Florida and federal officials announced the state will build a new immigration detention facility dubbed "Alligator Alcatraz" in the Everglades, and because the facility will be partly funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, some Floridians are worried whether it will affect hurricane relief funds.

Governor Ron DeSantis pushed back against those concerns Wednesday, insisting the facility will have no long-term impact.
"This is an existing airstrip that is already built and paved," the office of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis told Newsweek.
"We will stay on the ground for as long as we're needed and at the direction of Governor DeSantis," a spokeswoman said.
