Racquel "Kelly" Smith, the mother of 6-year-old Joshlin Smith, has been sentenced to life in prison alongside two other men in connection with the trafficking of her child.

Joshlin's teacher then alleged in court that Smith had told her during the search that her daughter was already "on a ship, inside a container, and they were on the way to West Africa".

Joshlin Smith, then 6, disappeared from her home in the small town of Middelpos, Saldanha Bay, in Western Cape province on February 19, 2024 and a nationwide search began.
