Odds are high that the Northern Hemisphere will see its first tropical storm of 2025 this week. Meanwhile, a stormy pattern remains across the South after Texas was rocked by hail over the holiday weekend.

It's fairly typical to see a slow start to the season. The peak of Atlantic hurricane season comes late August through mid-October. The actual peak is considered to be September 10. Currently, a plume of Saharan dust has ejected off the west coast of Africa. That dry air serves as a limiting factor for tropical systems to develop.
