After a two-year hiatus, a small group of U.S. Border Patrol agents is once again patrolling the border on horseback — from the beach to East County’s wilder terrain. Horses date back to the federal agency’s origins a century ago and are still used along the U.
It’s not clear why Border Patrol were the ones to carry out the operation, instead of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Federal agents removed crew members from Victory Cruise Lines, Viking, and Pearl Seas vessels as part of an undisclosed operation in the Great Lakes region, according to USA Today.
The operation, which took place in the Sacramento area, nearly 600 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border, is the latest show of force from the Border Patrol in the state, which joined a full-cavalry raid in a Los Angeles park earlier this month.

KTSM El Paso on MSNBorder Patrol agent in ‘use of force’ incident in West El Paso
U.S. Border Patrol said an agent was involved in a “use of force incident” and apparently used a stun gun late Thursday night, July 17 in West El Paso. The incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday at Sunland Park Drive and Constitution/J.
According to the news release, the center received a call at around 7:57 a.m from a resident who said that a neighbor asked them to report a suspected home break-in on the 4500 block of the Parkway neighborhood. Deputies responded to the scene and found that it was not a break-in but a U.S. Border Patrol operation.
