New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, who sued to block the tolls, is among some Democrats rejoicing at Trump’s decision. On Trump’s inauguration day, the governor sent a letter to the new president echoing Trump’s own criticism of congestion pricing as a “disaster.”

Gov. Kathy Hochul insisted that the cameras crucial to the toll structure will remain in operation. "The cameras are staying on," she said.

The U.S. Dept. of Transportation said in a letter to New York's governor that it has rescinded its earlier approval for New York City’s first-in-the-country congestion pricing program.
