The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for two attacks in southern Syria. One of them was an attack on government forces that an opposition war monitor described as the first on the Syrian army to be carried by the extremists since the fall of Bashar Assad.

A monitoring organisation called it the first attack by ISIS on the new government's forces since President Assad was ousted last December.
