Southern red cedar trees come in either male or female plants. Female plants will produce small, deep blue round berries. Birds love the berries and will also nest in the tree.

Small cedar trees, defective cedar trees and trees that simply were too hard to reach in these swamp conditions were left to continue growing in the resulting open conditions.
