“Pride, from its origin, is not only a celebration, it’s also a protest,” Sharat Lin, a longtime activist from San Jose who was at the parade for Dance with Pride, told SFGATE. “Here in San Francisco, where almost everybody supports LGBTQ rights, it’s easy to forget that. But it wasn’t always that way. It was part of a struggle.”
