While Saks has been a fixture on the corner of Post and Powell since 1997, retail real estate experts say the store's departure isn't a sign of the trend they're seeing downtown.

Another retail domino is set to topple in San Francisco's Union Square. Saks Fifth Avenue's San Francisco location, which has been operating from the corner of Post and Powell streets since 1997, will permanently close its doors on May 10,

It followed the dramatic announcement last summer that Saks Fifth Avenue, which operates out of a five-story building at 384 Post St., would go to appointment-only shopping, a move that subsequently reduced its presence in the area.
