Pope Leo XIV joined in with fans chanting “White Sox” as he greeted visitors to the Vatican. A clip from what appears to be St Peter’s Square shows the Pope waving to supporters as he is driven through the crowd. A group can be heard chanting “White Sox, White Sox!”, the baseball team that the Pope, who is originally from Chicago, supports.

As the Popemobile approached the White Sox admirers, Pope Leo XIV — who hails from the Windy City — could be seen mouthing, “White Sox,” as captured in a video shared by TikTok user jacobusch.clan. This show of support comes days after Pope Leo XIV rocked a White Sox cap while greeting other visitors, including a bride and groom.

Pope Leo, as we found out after he was chosen to lead the papacy, is a Chicago White Sox fan and not a Cubs die-hard, which has led to a lot of jokes and costumes and such. It's also led the pope to getting a new White Sox hat, and a lot of attention on the time that he used one hand to catch a puppet thrown to him (sports pope? Sports pope!).
