Hundreds of visitors and residents were evacuated from the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park this week as two wildfires advanced toward the park.

The White Sage Fire, sparked by lightning on 9 July, has scorched roughly 1,000 acres near Jacob Lake.

The wildfire also prompted officials to evacuate the North Rim and South Rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, which remains closed to the public.
