The exterior of the hotel is clad in a charcoal-coloured calcium silicate board. An entranceway clad in walnut panelling and rectangular mustard yellow tiles guides travellers inside.

This perfectly preserved mid-century Winnipeg home still holds the original owners’ modernist furniture and the funky wall coverings they used.

Several metres (around 10 feet) high, the mustard-yellow wall has only one entrance, which is secured by the army. It cost 1.8 million euros ($2.2 million), according to official figures.
