For those wishing to pull up an RV or pitch a tent, the lake is home to several private campgrounds, as well as the Alder Creek and Almanor campgrounds operated by the U.S. Forest Service.

Lake Almanor has an 11-mile paved trail that lets visitors explore the Lassen National Forest, where you can also spot some wildlife and birds. The path is open to both hikers and bikers.
