DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Gaza saw its deadliest day yet for aid-seekers in over 21 months of war as at least 85 Palestinians were killed while trying to reach food on Sunday, the territory’s Health Ministry said.

Israel has issued new evacuation warnings for parts of central Gaza in one of the few areas the military has rarely operated with ground troops. The evacuation cuts access between the city of Deir al-Balah and the southern cities of Rafah and Khan Younis in the narrow enclave.

At least 85 Palestinians were killed while trying to reach food at locations across Gaza on Sunday, the territory's Health Ministry said, on the deadliest day yet for aid-seekers in more than 21 months of war.

An American aid organization says 20 Palestinians were killed at a distribution site in Gaza. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation said it believed that 19 died from trampling Wednesday at its food distribution center and one was stabbed.

Gaza's civil defence agency said Israeli forces opened fire on crowds of Palestinians trying to collect humanitarian aid in the war-torn Palestinian territory on Sunday, killing 93 people and wounding dozens more.

At least 73 people were killed and around 150 people injured by Israeli gunfire in Gaza while seeking aid on Sunday, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

One mediator described Israel’s new map as “a breakthrough,” though sources believe at least a few more days well be needed to reach a final agreement. Israel has made “significant progress” in the hostage-ceasefire negotiations,
