COLUMBUS — A Nebraska Game and Parks Commission official estimates several thousand fish died in the Loup Power Canal after water flow from the Loup River was shut off.
The fish were killed after water flow from the Loup River to the Loup Public Power District’s canal shut off July 15, the Columbus Telegram reported.

A flood warning is in effect until 9:30 p.m. Thursday in Platte and Butler counties due to ice jam development on the Loup River, according to Platte County Emergency Management.
An ice jam developed just east of the railroad bridge on the Loup River near Columbus, resulting in water being displaced west of the T-Bone Truck Stop near Lincoln Highway and Highway 30.
