Colombian President Gustavo Petro has strongly criticized the U.S. for its handling of migrant deportations, refusing military flights carrying deported migrants and calling the treatment of individuals "criminal.

The Mexican government has not confirmed either the arrival of flights or any agreement to receive a specific number of planes with deportees

Trump said the Colombia's refusal jeopardized U.S. national security. He imposed tariffs on incoming goods, sanctions on government officials, enhanced border inspections of Colombian nationals, and banking and financial sanctions.

Brazil’s foreign ministry said late on Saturday that it would demand explanations from the US government over the ”degrading treatment” of Brazilians on a deportation flight, while Mexico on Friday also refused such a flight to land in the country.

Colombia on Sunday turned away two U.S. military aircraft with migrants being deported as part of President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown, a U.S. official said.
