Karen Carpenter, half of the Grammy-winning '70s duo the Carpenters and wholly one of the greatest vocalists of all time, died 40 years ago at age 32.

“Did you ever know I wrote that song for you,” Pooler asked his old flame. “No,” she said. “Now I have a treasure.” Thanks to Richard and Karen Carpenter and Frank Pooler we all now have a treasure.

All these years later, a journalist and a Carpenters' historian teamed up to help create a history book for fans. The music of Richard and Karen Carpenter has endured now for more than 50 years.
