In 1964, Jonathan attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. After two years of college, Jonathan was drafted into the Army where he was a helicopter mechanic.

When Daytona’s speedway was new, Glenn “Fireball” Roberts of Apopka and Daytona Beach rose to fame through his skill and personality.
