Seven individuals have died while in ICE custody so far in 2025, compared to the 12 recorded in 2024, according to the agency. Congress requires ICE to report all deaths within its custody, and local officers and agents must carry out a review into the circumstances surrounding each case.

The death of Johnny Noviello, 49, came as ICE agents have made sweeping arrests across the United States as part of President Trump’s crackdown on immigration. The cause is under investigation.

Johnny Noviello, 49, was found unresponsive on June 23 at the Bureau of Prisons Federal Detention Center in Miami, ICE said.
