Grand Canyon National Park's North Rim is closed for the remainder of the 2025 season due to a wildfire that has destroyed the historic Grand Canyon Lodge, cabins and visitors center. Here's what do know if you have a trip planned.

The Grand Canyon Lodge, which burned in the Dragon Bravo Fire over the weekend of July 12-13, was on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, the more remote and less visited part of the national park.

The Grand Canyon was formed with the shifting of tectonic plates, which lifted layers of rock into a high and relatively flat plateau, according to the park service. About 5 million to 6 million years ago, the Colorado River began to carve its way downward, slowly deepening and widening the gorge.
