Schools, businesses, and community groups have scattered about 80,000 genki balls, with a goal to spread 300,000 throughout the Ala Wai by 2026.

Genki balls are made up of microorganisms, molasses soil and rice bran. They help clean up all the sludge in the water. Dozens of "Genki Balls" were tossed into the Ala Wai Tuesday.
