Lawyers for Alphabet's Google and "Fortnite" maker Epic Games squared off before a U.S. appeals court in California on Monday, as Google tries to undo a jury verdict and a judge's order forcing it to revamp its app store.

Epic accused Google in a 2020 lawsuit of monopolizing how consumers access apps on Android devices and how they pay for transactions within apps.

Google has asked a US Appeals Court to overturn an earlier verdict that had ordered it to revamp its Play Store.

In October 2024, U.S. District Judge James Donato ordered Google to open up Google Play and carry third-party app stores, and allow those third-party developers to have access to Google Play’s catalog of apps, among other remedies, in order to increase competition on the Android platform.
