This week, opponents and defenders of a newly drawn district map, which Boston Mayor Michelle Wu signed into law, made their case in federal court. Closing arguments could come on Wednesday.

Traditional and historic Irish Catholic parishes in Dorchester would be split apart under this map, and Black voters would be disenfranchised as a result of combining both groups in District 4.

On Sept. 14, Boston voters narrowed the field to current at-large city councilors Michelle Wu, who lives in Roslindale, and Annissa Essabi George, from Dorchester.
