Cadbury’s Creme Egg have been on shelves for several months now and are a firm favourite with chocolate lovers. Supermarkets across Ireland have Easter eggs on offer ahead of Easter.

The high sugar content may not come as a surprise, as each tasty Creme Egg has a whopping 26.5g of sugar - making a huge chunk of the recommended daily limit of 30g of free sugars.

A Creme Egg contains more than 6.5 teaspoons of total sugar, 6g of fat and more than 170 calories per egg. Customers have taken to social media after noticing the sugar content of the small treats.

The Cadbury Creme Egg, as we know it now, was introduced in the early 1960s. In the U.S., the memorable Cadbury Bunny commercial helped cement the Creme Egg’s status as an Easter icon.
