The Bozeman Trail was an offshoot of the Oregon Trail, a shortcut to the newly discovered gold fields of Montana Territory. Cutting through the heart of Indian country.

Before that, the route to Montana gold fields came past Salt Lake City on the Oregon Trail and then went north through Idaho. Bozeman and Jacob’s new path cut about 450 miles off the distance.

BOZEMAN, Mont. – Crews have started work on the popular trail system at Burke Park in Bozeman, with the Gallatin Valley Land Trust focusing on maintenance and improvements.
