Polk County Fire Rescue responded to a call on Pipes Road near Bartow at 3:43 p.m. Monday afternoon.

BARTOW, Fla. — A fire destroyed a home and spread to a home next door Thursday afternoon in Bartow, according to Polk County Fire Rescue.

Polk County will pay $6.78 million and Bartow $5.22 million to build the station. The contract calls for a 60-40 split on operational costs and 50% on maintenance.

One person has died following a camper fire in Bartow on Monday, the Polk County Fire Rescue announced.
