Aitana Bonmatí has led Spain to the Women's European Championship final after a challenging start. On Wednesday, she scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 semifinal victory over Germany, setting up a rematch against England.

Aitana Bonmati nearly missed the 2025 European Championship due to a bout with viral meningitis the week before the tournament began. But on Wednesday, the two-time Ballon d’Or winner found a late goal to lift Spain to their first appearance in a Euros final.

"You could write a book about this," said Aitana Bonmati on Wednesday as she reflected on the last few weeks in her life after scoring the goal which took Spain into the final of the Women's Euro 2025.
