At least 11 people were killed in flooding that swept vehicles off the road and led to dozens of high-water rescues, authorities in San Antonio said Friday.
The abrupt closure comes after the city experienced record-breaking rainfall in the morning hours on Thursday. Between 3 and 8 inches of rain occurred in Bexar County, according to the National Weather Service. The heavy rains blanketed the region, causing power outages, high-water rescues and at least four fatalities.
Ongoing storms and downpours moving east across the South will increase the flood threat for major cities across Louisiana and Arkansas on Friday and into Saturday.
