The U.S. Geological Survey said a 4.6 magnitude earthquake in California’s Salton Sea did not happen on Friday morning. The agency’s website in the morning reported that the quake happened at a depth of about 5 miles under the Salton Sea.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. — A section of the Salton Sea was hit by a 4.6 magnitude earthquake Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The earthquake occurred at 10:26 a.m. in a southern part of the lake, about 8.6 miles southeast of Bombay Beach. The location is about 170 miles east of San Diego.
