The Texas Civil Rights Project said two parents were given a choice to leave their citizen children in the United States or accompany them to Mexico.

The 10-year-old girl along with her siblings and parents, who are from Mexico and had been living in Texas without legal status for more than a decade, were detained in early February at an immigration checkpoint in South Texas,

At the time, the parents were given a choice: to have their children stay in the U.S. without them, or to have the children deported alongside the parents. Five of the six children were U.S. citizens.
