Kansas City Royals closer Carlos Estévez tied a franchise mark with his 16th save of the season. Estévez worked a scoreless ninth inning against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday at Kauffman Stadium. He navigated the top of the Tigers lineup in securing a 1-0 victory.

Detroit Tigers veteran Alex Cobb, suffering from a hip injury, tossed two scoreless innings on 24 pitches in the first start of his rehab assignment.

There may not be a team in as good of a position as the Detroit Tigers in all of baseball. Not only do they currently own the best record in the American League at 37-20 and have the highest winning percentage in the MLB at .649, dominating currently, they are set up incredibly well for the future, too.

New Detroit Tigers reliever Dylan Smith had a 1.61 ERA with eight walks and 32 strikeouts in 22⅓ innings in 14 games in Double-A and Triple-A.

The Detroit Tigers claimed right-handed pitcher Ryan Cusick off waivers from the Athletics on Friday and optioned him to Triple-A Toledo. Cusick, 25, had been designated for assignment by the A’s earlier this week.

The Tigers do things a little bit differently, and now they've combined that edge with a focused determination to surpass last season.

Announced by the organization Friday afternoon, the Detroit Tigers have promoted former Alabama Crimson Tide pitcher Dylan Smith for what would be his MLB debut. A former third round pick by Detroit in the 2021 MLB draft out of Alabama, Smith has spent the past three-to-four years in the minor leagues of the Tigers' system.
