The incident is the second climbing death, but the first avalanche related, on Mt. McKinley/Denali this season. 41 year old mountaineer Alex Chiu died after falling 3,000 feet on Denali’s West Buttress route just last week.

A 29-year-old skier from Washington was killed after being caught in an avalanche on Mt. McKinley in Alaska. The National Park Service said Nicholas Vizzini died Monday after being caught in a soft slab avalanche along the West Buttress Route.

Authorities are confirming the death of a skier who triggered an avalanche alongside his climbing partner, a snowboarder, while descending a slope in Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska.
